ABOUT KYCI

Background and Purpose of Establishment

• The Korea Youth Counseling & Welfare Institute is a central institution that oversees over 600 youth counseling and welfare centers, out-of-school youth support centers, and youth welfare facilities. It is a public institution under the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family that carries out various counseling and welfare projects for the healthy growth of youth and the realization of their happy dreams.
  In particular, we support youth in crisis such as out-of-school youth and media-dependent youth, as well as carry out various projects such as youth policy research and program development, and training of experts in counseling and welfare.

• 2. General management and support of youth counseling and welfare institutions nationwide
• 3. Nurturing and education of youth counseling and welfare experts
• 4. Development and dissemination of youth counseling and welfare programs
• 5. Prevention and resolution of youth problems through professional counseling

Major Functions

• Provide guidance and support for Youth Counseling & Welfare Centers
• Provide guidance and support for Out-of-school Youth Support Centers (K-Dream Center)
• Educate and train youth counseling/welfare professionals
• Run peer counseling programs to prevent school violence
• Develop and distribute programs for scharacter development
• Run programs to prevent and counter adolescents’ overdependence on the media
• Provide professional counseling services for youth
• Conduct research and develop programs for youth counseling and welfare
• Run the National center for Youth Internet addiction Treatment
• Run the National Youth Healing Center
• Improve youth welfare facilities (youth shelters, self-reliance support facilities, rehabilitation support facilities)
• Work on the projects and programs necessary to fulfill the purposes of the KYCI
